The Library

This is a large table top display of the entire castle grounds, as seen in the library of the Villa Trips. At top center is the castle, with the outbuildings, at the center right is the Villa Trips.
One must take the stairs or elevator to reach the rest of the museum. Directly on the left of the staircase, you'll find the library and a big model of the Castle Hemmersbach, including the outbuildings and Villa Trips (designed by Hillebrand). It looks very life-like, but the vegetation is denser in reality than it is on the model. The trees are taller and are more numerous. The moat is surrounded with thick bushes and the cas-tle itself is partly covered with several varieties of ivies.

All four walls of the library are lined with books about motorcars, from A to Z. The library of the founda-tion currently has approximately 7,000 titles, many of which are about Ferrari, but there are also books about Porsche, Dodge and Mercedes, and many others. According to Christoph Louis, the library has been consulted several times in regards to books and articles. Those walls, filled with so many books, strangely impressed me--

The Other Rooms

In the museum, there are several rooms full of valuable possessions, but the most remarkable room is the "Graf Wolfgang Zimmer". Decorated like his original office, the room is complete with his belongings, just as he used it, including his desk, tables, chests, and bookcases. There's a remarkable feeling of peace in this room. Opposite the office is the "Benzin Zimmer Taffy". This is an overview of the participation of the Scuderia Colonia at several events, illustrated by the many medals, cup's and photos. This room is the pride of Hubert Oebels.

The "Graf Wolfgang Zimmer", or Wolfgang's room, is set up much as he used his office in the 1950s until his death in 1961.
Next, is the "Mille Miglia Zimmer", in which is a personal view of von Trips, compiled by different people. Of course there's also some attention paid to the Mille Miglia (1957, May 11-12) by means of photos, posters, etc. The "Le Mans Zimmer" displays travel items of all kinds, like a passport and little mementos. In the corridors several posters and paintings decorate the walls. Opposite the "Dokumentationszentrum"
(Documentation-center) is a huge sort of pillar with 116 maps in it as well as press cuttings and articles from magazines. Unfortunately, the "Dokumentationzentrum" was closed. In that part of the first floor there's also a "Modelauto und Zeitunsarchive Zimmer" ('Model car and newspaper-archive room") which is full of books about model-cars, newspapers and magazines.

In the room called the "Mythos Graf Berghe von Trips", is a very emotional live taped report of the race with the deadly accident of von Trips, covered by the radio-reporters Reinhard Künstler and Günher Jendri. When a button is pushed, the tape starts and the emotional voices of both reporters really stay in one's memory. Photos of the race and the accident as well as the funeral remind one of this terrible day. The visitor can get some relief in the "Zandvoort Zimmer", with scale-models and dioramas, each with its own theme such as the Mille Miglia, Sebring, Le Mans, etc. Moreover there are all sort of knick-knacks for fans and/or collectors.
