Ah, the Alfa Sud. I owned one back in the days when I found most interesting Italian cars hard to resist. At the same time, I also owned a Lamborghini Urraco P300 which wasn’t exactly an ideal everyday car. So, I bought an Alfa Sud 1.5 Ti and it was a joy to drive – when it worked. Sadly, it spent most of it’s time in the workshop, where the parts that fell off or stop working were fixed. Despite this, I forgave it all whenever it was running well, but my wife was less forgiving and pointed out that the “reliable” daily driver had become the “Lambo”. Then she pointed out that the cost of maintenance in 18 months had exceeded the amount I paid for it. It was sold soon after…
Nowadays the build quality of all Alfa’s is vastly improved, but none of them feel so dynamically complete as an Alfa Sud.
