MBI Now Means MotorBooks Italiano

A new website devoted to Italian Automotive Publications

Dave McClure and Lynn Getz, your hosts at MotoBooks Italiano>

MotorBooks Italiano (www.MotorBooks Italiano.com). is exactly what it says, never mind the purposeful use of a well known acronym: A one stop Internet bookstore for those interested in books on Italian automotive subjects.

MBI also picked up the Giorgio Nada US retail sales distribution when it was dropped by the other MBI (there is no connection between MotorBooks Italiano and Motorbooks International, however). MotorBooks Italiano is now the online source for the fine line of books offered by the longtime Italian publishing house. Smart move.

We'll get into the details in a bit, but we'd like to point out that MotorBooks Italiano offers a great service for Italian car enthusiasts. Based in San Antonio, MBI is the creation of Dave McClure and Lynn Getz, who have been in the automotive book and Internet business since the analog age and are eager to please their customers. But businesses that offer choice, convenience and stock specialty items must be supported by the enthusiast base. That means us. MotorBooks Italiano is there for our needs, and we urge you to visit their website, and by all means, use it to find and order the books you desire. Like they say, use it or lose it.

Parent company LMG Enterprises opened the doors for business in 1989 as a specialist mail order automobile book dealer. In 1994 a stand alone Internet website was constructed and added to their already well-established mail order automotive book business. The new website pre-dated those of Amazon, Barnes & Noble and MotorBooks International. "I guess we can truthfully say that we were pioneers of the new business technology called the Internet," says McClure.

Automobile Year is now available from LMG-Gallery L'Automobile for $59.95.

Three years later it was obvious that the Internet effort had paid off for LMG. The website was generating more book orders than the mail order side of the business! In 1997, the decision was made to become a totally Internet-based business and a second specialized site was added to handle the Automotive Art & Automobilia side of the business.

Doing so well, in fact, that Dave and Lynn made the decision to add yet a third specialized site to their growing business. "We decided that further diversification was necessary, so in 2004, a third website was added."

According to McClure, "The intention of the new site is to provide an online source for Italian published automobile books and books dealing with Italian automotive subjects. The inventory of new, used and out-of-print titles available cover all the Italian automobile Marques and Etceterini and also include books on Italian Motorcycles, Scooters, Commercial Vehicles, Karting, Pedal Cars, Toys, Models and appropriate Auto Racing titles."

The site also showcases the fascinating Giorgio Nada line of books, many of which are no longer available through any other retail bookseller in the USA.

McClure believes the new website "is a great resource for all Italian car enthusiasts as there is no other online resource dedicated to books on Italian automotive subjects that includes the ability to search only for books that are relevant to their interest."

So when VeloceToday reader Marc Hunter wanted to know if the new book on Villoresi, published in Italian by Nada, would be available in English, we passed the email onto McClure. "We are constantly in communication with Stefano Nada and I will ask him in our next email - I am going to guess that his reply will be based on our response to his question regarding the number of copies that we think we could sell of the translated version!"

Available from Motorbooks Italiano, $21.60 plus shipping.

Here's hoping that MotorBooks Italiano will be able to exert enough influence on the Nada publishing house so that more books will be available in both Italian and English.

McClure knows his customers and is willing to go to bat for them. "We are genuinely interested in your feedback and will give serious consideration to any proposals that you may have. Please e-mail your comments to Info@MotorBooksItaliano." In fact, he'd like to know how many VeloceToday readers would be interested in a copy of the Villoresi book (in Italian only). If you'd like a copy, drop him a line.

An informal partnership between VeloceToday and MotorBooks Italiano is a natural. We're all car nuts, and we're all book nuts. Our audience is essentially identical. VeloceToday will be reviewing some of the books offered by MBI, and we'll include a new banner as well as multiple links to the MBI website.
